Hima Das born 9 January 2000 (age 20 at the time of published) is an Indian sprinter. Hima became the first Indian to win a Gold medal in a track event at the World Junior Athletics Championships in 2018. She comes from the state of Assam, which is in the North-East region of India.

Early Life & Family
Hima Das was born in Kandhulimari village, Dhing, Nagaon, Assam. Her Mother Ronjit and father Jonali Das. Her father is Farmer by Profession and she has four siblings and elder to all. She went to the Dhing Public High School and began playing football as a child.

She aimed to pursue the career in football and used to play with boys in her childhood. Later, on the advice of Shamsul Haque, a Physical Education Trainer from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Das switched over to athletics and began competing in short and middle length sprints.

Hoque introduced her to Gowri Shankar Roy of the Nagaon Sports Association. Das later qualified for an inter-district competition and won two Gold medals at the sports meet.
Das got the attention of Nipon Das, an athletics coach from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare during an inter-district competition. He asked her to shift to Guwahati for training. Hima Das’s parents agreed to the proposal despite their reservations.

Calling her a rare talent Nipon Das said that Hima Das’ “dedication and hard work set her apart”. She then moved near to Saarusajai Sports Complex and got enrolled to the state academy, which specialised in boxing and football. Later, a separate wing was started for athletics.
In 2018, Common Wealth Games Das competed in the 400 metres and the 4×400 metres relay. In the 400 metres, Das qualified for the final where she finished sixth in a time of 51.32 seconds, 1.17 seconds.
at the 4×400 metres relay, she was a member of the Indian team that competed in the final. They finished seventh, with a time of 3 minutes and 33.61 seconds.
Indians based in Finland came together to help Indian athlete Hima Das.
At the World U-20 Championships 2018 at Tampere, Finland, Das became the first Indian track athlete to hold a global title on winning the Gold medal in Women’s 400m with a time of 51.46 seconds.
Having run a slower first half, Das accelerated on the last 100-meter stretch overtaking three competitors en route to the gold medal.
