If you want to search for great athletes, FIFA World Cup 2018 is not the only place you can find them. India, for example, is also full of renowned athletes. One of them is Anju Bobby George. Born on April 19th, 1977, (age 41) she is considered one of Indian’s best athletes. Through the course of her life, she has received various achievements on both national and international levels. Today, she holds the position of India’s Chairperson of Target Olympic Podium Scheme or TOPS. She is also an executive member of Khelo India Project.

The famous Indian athlete was born on April 19th, 1977 at Changanassery, Kerala. It was her father who introduced her to sports world while she was still young. However, it was Mr Thomas, her trainer in school who drove her interest to join the athletics world.

Everyone was amazed when in 1999, Anju Bobby George joined the Bangalore Federation Cup, where he played triple jump and scored a national record. Even so, she never thought it was enough. For an athlete like her, being good enough is not enough.
For this reason, when she joined the National Circuit Meet at Thiruvananthapuram, she broke another astonishing record under her own name. The records didn’t stop there, for sure. When he went to Hyderabad and Ludhiana National Games, he played a triple jump and long jump, where he earned gold medals for both games.
When Asian games land on Busan, South Korea, she was sent as part of our country’s representative. Sending her was probably one of the best decision our government has ever made throughout our Asian Games involvement. However, it was in 2003, when she actually hit the world’s headlines after jumping 6.7 m at Long Jump.
Anju Bobby George Bronze Medal
Her effort was awarded a bronze medal, making her one among a few of our athletes who ever set their name in World Championships history. It is also thanks to her that our country finally earned our first medal at the World Championships in Athletics.
In 2004, he went to Athens to join the Summer Olympics. Even though she managed to jump 6.83 m, it wasn’t enough to earn her another medal. That length only put her in the sixth position at that time.
Anju Receiving Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
In 2006, she went to Doha to join Asian Games, where she won a silver medal for the long jump.
